I didn’t know about network marketing until 1981 when an electrician came into my apartment to fix the new telephone and was impressed by the books I was reading such as Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Psychocybernetics by Dr Maxwell Maltz, and asked me if I will be interested to know about a business model similar to the McDonald’s Franchise system? He made an appointment to see me the next day and he turned up smartly dressed in a business suit and he presented me the Amway business and I got my first network marketing business kit!

I attended my first Amway business rally in Seattle in 1981 and when they asked who lived the farthest, I told them I was from Singapore and was called onto the stage where I faced an audience of over 6,000 people! I was very impressed by the high energy and enthusiasm of the people!

Later I was introduced to Forever Living by my dentist friend, Dr Edward Sutter and he also introduced me to my Sifu Taky Kimura. I met him at the Toastmasters Club meeting and Dr Sutter and I have kept in touch and I met him when I visited Seattle in 2004. Because of my university studies I didn’t do much but love the idea of working smart and leveraging your time and effort through thousands of people!

After I graduated in 1981 I spent 12 years working in different companies in the travel and advertising industries. I learned a lot about people, advertising and marketing and enjoyed my work but I realized that I was working hard but not smart, I wasn’t leveraging my time and effort!

I got into network marketing again on 7 August 1993 and and I am looking forward to my 17th anniversary in network marketing on 7 August 2010!

Here is my simple definition of network marketing: A simple, proven and tested, profitable home-based business that gives ordinary people an opportunity to earn extraordinary passive income through the power of leverage!
